A few weeks ago I wrote a piece discussing the possibility of fraud in the UAW 2865 contract ratification vote. Basically I concluded that fraud on the scale necessary to change the outcome was very unlikely, but also that the union leadership should take steps to allay the legitimate concerns of ratification opponents.
The union’s Joint Council has now officially rejected a challenge to the election results and utterly failed to engage with the criticism and concerns raised by many members, including leaders from several campuses.
This is not only a very disturbing outcome, but also one that is quite disappointing for a union that is supposed to be democratic and member-run.
